Social Media Volunteer Position Description:

  • POSITION/JOB TITLE: Social Media Volunteer

  • DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM: Health Services/Research

  • REPORTS TO: Mika Baumgardner; Research Administrative Coordinator

  • TIME COMMITMENT: 2-4 hours per week

  • LOCATION: REMOTE

  • COMPENSATION: Unpaid

PROGRAM SUMMARY:

The Los Angeles LGBT Center is one of the nation’s largest and most experienced providers of LGBTQ+ health and mental healthcare. We are also the only Federally Qualified Health Center in California—one of the few in the nation—specifically for LGBTQ+ people.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Clinical Research Department at the Center is seeking a social media volunteer to assist with the launch of our official Instagram page. The page will be a powerful outreach tool to raise community awareness about our studies and drive recruitment of study participants. The page will promote engagement between the research department and community members and provide a platform to educate the community about our research findings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create weekly Instagram posts based on content and creative direction from Center staff;

  • Attend weekly planning and check-in Zoom meetings;

  • Develop a catalog of material for future posts;

  • Read academic articles on research results and create short-form content for lay audiences

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong computer skills, especially CANVA

  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA practices;

  • Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines;

  • Consistent internet access and willingness to meet via ZOOM

  • Knowledge of clinical research practices, HIV, and other STIs is a plus

  • Experience with graphic design, art, social media, content creation, and/or marketing

  • Interest in public health concerns related to underserved populations;

  • Responsible, respectful, dependable, flexible;

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, and gender identities in a multicultural setting.
