Volunteer Queer – October 3, 2017
A gala, an auction, an open mic, and more amazing opportunities to volunteer queer.
GLBT Historical Society Annual Gala!
Founded in 1985, The GLBT Historical Society collects, preserves, and exhibits materials and knowledge that promote understanding of LGBTQ history, culture and arts in all their diversity. The Historical Society operates the GLBT History Museum in the Castro District and maintains research archives in downtown San Francisco.
The GLBT Historical Society’s annual gala is coming up on Saturday, October 14th! The gala will be hosted by Alex U. Inn (Momma’s Boyz, KINGDOM!) and Marke Bieschke (48 Hills, The Stud), and will feature performances by renowned transgender opera singer Breanna Sinclaire and special guest Honey Mahogany of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 5. This is a very important fundraiser for the Historical Society and volunteers are an essential part of making it a success. There is an urgent need for volunteers to help with setup, silent auction, and cleanup – please sign up if you can!

Windcall is dedicated to nurturing and developing transformative learning and resilient leadership among social justice organizers in low-income communities and communities of color. The new generation of leaders fronting today’s movements face rapidly shifting conditions and a barrage of trauma-inducing aggressions from a political system bent on violence. Windcall fosters their healing now so they can sustain for the long-haul. Participants average: 20% Trans/gender non-conforming, 75% non-heterosexual/cis, 80% people of color.
Windcall seeks volunteers to help with operations, communications, development, and program-related work. This includes website maintenance, Salesforce support, email newsletters, fundraising campaigns, and program design and implementation.
African Human Rights Coalition
The African Human Rights Coalition (AHRC) works with LGBTI communities and individuals in African countries seeking to claim and defend their human rights. We provide case management services for LGBTI individuals, asylum seekers and refugees in and from Africa, including humanitarian assistance, advocacy, referrals and resources. AHRC’s ultimate goal is to support LGBTI people in and from African countries in the pursuit of happiness, freedom, full-empowerment, and economic stability in Africa and abroad.
AHRC is run entirely by volunteers, including pro bono lawyers, researchers, housing, hosting, airport meets, transport, mentoring, and many other services. They could really use your support!

AIDS Emergency Fund responds compassionately to the AIDS crisis by providing immediate, short-term financial assistance to help people disabled by HIV/AIDS to cover their basic human needs and stabilize their living situations. Through intervention by AEF, people living with HIV/AIDS can maintain access to medical care and drug therapies, avoid eviction and homelessness, and live with greater stability and dignity during their illness.
An independent agency for 35 years, AIDS Emergency Fund is now a program of Positive Resource Center (PRC). Positive Resource Center remains the only place for people living with HIV/AIDS or mental health disabilities to get comprehensive benefits counseling and employment services in San Francisco. Since their inception, they have helped their clients access life-saving disability income and gainful employment, ultimately providing them with a baseline of financial and healthcare security.
AEF and PRC are holding two big fundraising events in October and they need your support! Click on the link below for more information.
