NIA Collective was created by and for Lesbians of African descent. The word “NIA” was chosen for its meaning, purpose, in the Swahili language. African Americans are familiar with the term as the fifth principle of Kwanzaa, the Winter Harvest celebration.
NIA is a transgenerational organization, focused on the physical, mental, spiritual well-being along with the growth and visibility of the Black Lesbian. This is accomplished through education and compassion. One of the tools used to achieve this goal is through the Annual NIA Gathering- an event that supports, acknowledges, and reflects the diversity of the Black Lesbian. You can be a part of this continuously inspiring and empowering event and support the NIA Collective.
