Gay Asian Pacific Alliance (GAPA) was formed from the need for an organization to address, through a democratic process, social, cultural, and political issues affecting LGBTQ APIs. GAPA was formally organized in January 1988. Among many accomplishments, GAPA planted the seed to what would became the Asian and Pacific Islander Wellness Center. Cultural outlets endure including the GAPA Men’s Chorus and GAPA Runway, now managed by GAPA Foundation. We provide resources and visibility and establish a network with local, national, and international groups that share our concerns and vision.

Opportunity Description

The Bay Area is home to some of the earliest Queer and Trans Asian and Pacific Islander (QTAPI) organizations in the nation. Starting in the 70's and 80's, QTAPI groups have been organizing for justice and equity in our communities, and many of those same groups are still continuing to do so.

Born out of a collaborative process responding to the current needs of our community, When Pigs Fly Over the Moon is a historic event bringing together many of the Bay Area's QTAPI serving organizations in one place. It is inter-organizational, intergenerational, showcases our community talent and strengths, shows off our rich history, and raises funds for a common cause (API Pride Pavilion).

Think of it as part mixer, part resource fair, part talent showcase, and part history exhibit. Featured performers include nenci, César Cadabes, Kristi Yummykochie of the Rice Rockettes, and Queer Taiko.

Volunteers are needed for registration, bartending, setup, cleanup, and general support. Come out to support this incredible event and enjoy a phenomenal evening!
