Programs Associate

Reports to Senior Programs Manager

This is a full time hybrid position that reports to the Senior Programs Manager. The Programs Associate is responsible for supporting the implementation of programs at TurnOut and its fiscal sponsee the SF Street Fair Coalition (SFSFC). This position is seasonal (April 1 - October 31) with the opportunity to extend year-round depending on budget and performance.

TurnOut is a Bay Area-based grassroots nonprofit that works to power intersectional movements for mutual aid and liberation. The Programs Associate will support the Senior Programs Manager to implement: 1) a community-wide newsletter focused on service opportunities for local queer and trans organizations and events; 2) volunteer recruitment and organizing for partner events; 3) paid staff recruitment and organizing for partner events; 4) managing the SFSFC warehouse; and 5) managing referral networks between partner organizations. The Programs Associate will work in close collaboration with the Senior Programs Manager to support the implementation of these programs. 

Duties include:

  • Newsletter

    • Implementing TurnOut & community partner’s events into a weekly newsletter. 

    • Answering newsletter feature requests from community partners.

    • Maintaining newsletter lists by tagging subscriber’s locations.

    • Tracking volunteer referrals to community partners via the newsletter.

    • Adding newsletter opportunities to TurnOut’s calendar.

  • Volunteer Recruitment and Organizing 

    • Identify and execute opportunities for recruiting new volunteers, including tabling at large-scale street fairs, tabling at local bar nights, visiting student groups at local high schools and colleges, and other opportunities as identified.

    • Answering inquiries from volunteers as they come in.

  • Paid Staff Recruitment and Organizing

    • Along with volunteer recruitment and organizing, the Programs Associate will also help to coordinate TurnOut’s paid staffing program, which offers hourly gigwork opportunities at mission-aligned events and organizations.

    • Answering inquiries from paid staffers as they come in.

    • Helping to ensure all records are maintained for the paid staffing program, including W9s, hours, attendance records, and general tracking.

  • SFSFC Warehouse

    • Use an inventory management system (like Asset Tiger) to manage the assets in the warehouse, including checking items in and out, dealing with lost or broken items, and coordinating work crews for taking inventory out and putting it back. 

    • Maintaining warehouse calendar so that the multiple parties using the warehouse do not conflict with each other. 

    • Maintain a separate receiving and shipping calendar. 

    • Coordinating warehouse maintenance, including garbage, graffiti coverage, stocking the bathroom, etc.

  • Referral Network

    • Work with the Senior Programs Associate to help coordinate referrals of clients across a network of LGBTQ+ organizations in California.

    • Help build and maintain the referral program.

    • Respond to inquiries and requests from network partners as needed.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a highly-motivated self-starter, with high attention to detail and creative ideas for expanding outreach and engaging volunteers and community partners effectively.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and public speaking ability, and must be culturally competent with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse stakeholder groups.

  • Must possess a strong grasp of LGBTQ+ issues and a fluency regarding the wide range of work done by queer and trans nonprofits, as well as nonprofits focused on intersectional movements.

  • Requires an individual who is a self-starter, disciplined with their time, who is comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

  • Requires strong computer skills and ability to set up and maintain software systems as needed.

  • Requires strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing projects and priorities to completion successfully. 

Details: This position is full time (~40 hr/week) with a rate of $30/hr and includes paid time off and sick time, as well as medical and dental insurance. TurnOut’s staff members are hybrid, working primarily from home but will be required to work at the warehouse in SOMA and attend events in-person in the Bay Area as needed.
